Preliminary estimates released by Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry on Friday showed that industrial production in Japan fell unexpectedly in November.
Industrial production declined by 0.6 percent month-over-month, defying expectations for a 0.8 percent increase. In the previous month, production had risen 0.4 percent.
On a year-on-year basis, industrial output dropped 3.8 percent, faster than the 2.4 percent decrease expected by economists. This was also faster than the 0.8 percent fall logged in October.
Shipments slid 4.5 percent annually in November.
