Japanese labor cash earnings decreased unexpectedly in November after eight consecutive months of increase, provisional data from the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare showed Friday.
Average total cash earnings fell 1.5 percent in November from last year following the 0.2 percent rise in October. Economists had expected a 0.4 percent increase in wages.
Contractual earnings climbed 0.1 percent in November. Scheduled earnings grew 0.2 percent while non-scheduled earnings fell 0.9 percent.
Real wages declined 4.3 percent year-on-year in November.
