Consumer prices in South Korea were up just 0.8 percent on year in December, the government said on Wednesday – below forecasts for a gain of 1.0 percent, which would have been unchanged from November.
CPI was flat on month after easing 0.2 percent in the previous month.
Core consumer prices added 0.1 percent on month following the flat reading in November; on a yearly basis, core CPI was unchanged at 1.6 percent.
The Bank of Korea continues to expect inflation to rise 2.3 percent for all of 2014.
